Dutch Braid and a 4 Strand Slide up into a Bun Tutorial

1. Start with the hair down and a side part.

2. Section off a 3 inch part straight from the part line to the ear and secure the rest of the hair to keep it out of the way.

3. Take a half inch section from the part line of the section you have created and begin a regular three strand braid crossing the outer strands under the middle strands.

4. After the first stitch of the braid begin adding hair to create a dutch braid. As you reach the ear keep the braid close to the head so it pulls back nicely.

5. Continue a regular three strand braid once there is no more hair to add and secure with an elastic.

6. Take an inch square section next to the dutch braid you have just created and divide it into four equal pieces.

7. Begin a 4 strand braid crossing the outer strand over then under on the right and under then over on the left.

8. Once the braid reaches the bottom of the hair hold the middle piece with one hand (there should be one piece running through the middle of the braid) and slide the other 3 all the way up the braid.

9. Spread the slid up sections out so that the braid is long enough to reach a side ponytail and secure with an elastic.

10. Pull both braids back into a side ponytail.

11. Either using a bun maker (I am using the sarah potempa wrap up) or twisting and pinning the hair, create a bun from the side ponytail and secure using bobby pins (if needed).

If you are using a similar bun maker, pull the ponytail through, close the “mouth” of the bun maker and roll the hair up to the head. Once you reach the head, pull the ends of the bun maker around and spread the hair to make a round bun.
